What Is Norinori?
What is Norinori? A Japanese Nikoli shading puzzle. This page explains the meaning of のりのり, the rules, and that Nikoli does not clearly document the origin.
Norinori is a region-shading logic puzzle. Shade exactly two cells in every region so that every black cell belongs to an isolated 1×2 domino. A domino may cross a region border.
Where Norinori comes from
Nikoli publishes Norinori as a Japanese logic puzzle. This site is independent and supplies its own boards. The original rules are described on Nikoli’s Norinori page.
The Japanese title is のりのり, usually written Norinori in English.
About the name
The exact origin of the puzzle’s name is not clearly documented by Nikoli. Some puzzle sources associate “nori” with seaweed and the dark domino shapes, while のりのり is also an ordinary Japanese expression.
